Adams, Mrs.

Townswoman living at the La Mesa Hotel in La Mesa, New Mexico Territory, in 1876.[2] (March 6, 1824October 21, 1906)[2]

Wife to Fred Adams.[1]

In May of 1876, Mrs. Adams and her husband heard screaming coming from a room across the hall from theirs. The screams were feigned by Daisy Haskell, just after she had shot Bart Maverick to fake her real husband's murder. Mrs. Adams and her husband ran into the hallway to answer the alarm. The La Mesa Hotel clerk arrived a moment later and got Daisy to open the door, seemingly terrified out of her wits. The clerk called for the doctor and sheriff and directed Mrs. Adams to take care of her. She instructed him to bring Daisy a shot of brandy to help calm her nerves. Two nights later, Mrs. Adams again responded to screams from Daisy's room, this time met by the hotel clerk and the sheriff in the hall. Believing Bart to be have been killed two night before, she fainted when she saw him — very much alive — step out of Daisy's room.[1]
