In April of 1876,[2] Bart Maverick and Daisy Haskell traveled by stage with a traveling salesman for The Book of Knowledge. As the stagecoach picked up speed to traverse Comanche country, the salesman informed everyone on the coach that the latest edition of The Book of Knowledge reported that the Indians in that area were peaceful.[1]
