In April of 1879,[3] Bret Maverick convinced Jody Collins that he and Brother Bart had robbed a Cattleman's Bank in Newton two years earlier for $125,000. Collins' hired man Rick had heard of the holdup, which helped convince Collins of Bret's ruse.[4]
