Born Krekor Ohanian of Armenian descent, Mike Connors remains best known for his role as private investigator Joe Mannix in CBS Television's Mannix.

He became devoted to basketball in high school and nicknamed "Touch" by his teammates. After serving in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, he went to UCLA on a basketball scholarship and played under coach John Wooden. Director William A. Wellman noticed Connors' expressive face while playing basketball and encouraged him to get into acting.[1]
