Born Batty Jane Kathleen Crowley, she won the title of Miss New Jersey in 1949. She went on to place sixth in that year's Miss America pageant. With the scholarship money she won from the pageant, she enrolled at New York City's American Academy of Dramatic Art, which led to her introduction to acting for television in the title role of Robert Montgomery Presents' production of "A Star is Born" and Kraft Theatre's "Jane Eyre." She is well-known for her numerous appearances on Maverick in both stand-alone and recurring roles. She enjoyed a career of character roles in both television and film until 1970.[1]
