Goodnight-Loving Trail

 

Cattle trail established in 1866 from Fort Belknap, Texas to Fort Sumner, New Mexico Territory.[1]

 

In 1866, cattle ranchers Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving partnered to drive their herds to the growing markets in the Western frontier.[1]

 

 

Trail West to Fury: From August 24 through September 22, 1867,[2] Bret Maverick rode as trail boss for the Miller cattle drive[3] along a portion of the Goodnight-Loving Trail from San Angelo, Texas to Beck's Ranch, New Mexico Territory before breaking west on their own for Fort Adobe, Arizona Territory.[2]
