Henderson's Well

Water source ten miles from Silver Springs,[1] New Mexico Territory, on the eastern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert in 1878.[2]

In July of 1878,[2] Bret Maverick tracked Carl Jimson into the desert from Silver Springs. Henderson's Well was the last source of water for miles in the direction he was running, so he stopped there for to take on a full supply of water. Knowing Bret would be following, he used cartridges from his gun belt to cause a landslide, burying the well under tons of rock, forcing Bret to follow on a small amount of water into the desert.[1]
