Born Curtis McPeters and cousin to screen cowboys Rex Allen and Glenn Strange, Cactus Mack learned ranching in Texas. Mack was also a talented violin and guitar player, performing with Ray Whitley's Six Bar Cowboys and Fred Scott's Cimarron Cowboys. He appeared in many film and television westerns and was injured during his final performance on the set of Gunsmoke in 1961.[1]
