Maxime's Restaurant

French restaurant in New Orleans' French Quarter[1] in 1879.[2]

In April of 1879,[2] Bret and Bart Maverick chose to dine at Maxime's with the hope of meeting Henri Devereaux and convincing him to invite them aboard his luxurious steam packet, the River Princess, for her maiden voyage from New Orleans to St. Louis. After helping defuse an altercation between Devereaux and the restaurant's entertainer, Jody Collins, Devereaux refused to discuss business with the Maverick Brothers and left the restaurant with his daughter, Yvette. While waiting for their carriage to be drawn up, Deveraux and Yvette quarreled outside Maxime's about Yvette's fascination with Collins. When boarding the carriage, Devereaux was assaulted and knocked out while Yvette was abducted and spirited away in Devereaux's own carriage by Collins' henchmen, Rick and Jubal. Fortunately, Bret and Bart witnessed the kidnapping. Bart was able to hop onto the back of the carriage while Bret borrowed a horse and followed the carriage away from Maxime's.[3]
