narrows

A narrow waterway between two land masses or headlands.[1]

The Wrecker: In December of 1871[2] in San Francisco, Captain Nares told Bart Maverick to get aboard the Norah Creina quickly, as the ship was ready to get out into the narrows of the Golden Gate and sail with the tide out of San Francisco Bay. Later that month, the Norah Creina sailed through the narrows of Midway Island into its lagoon where the Flying Scud was aground on an underwater reef.[3]
