Pecos River

A major tributary of the Rio Grande. With it's headwaters north of the modern site of Pecos, New Mexico, the Pecos flows south and east through New Mexico, into Texas and finally into the Rio Grande.[1]

Trail West to Fury: From September 9 – 22, 1867,[2] Bret Maverick worked as trail boss for the Miller cattle drive from Little Bend, Texas to Fort Adobe, Arizona Territory.[3] A portion of the drive followed the Goodnight-Loving Trail along the Pecos River from Horsehead Crossing to Beck's Ranch, New Mexico Territory.[2] According to the Dell Adaptation, the Pecos was so full that it needed to be dammed in order to ford the cattle across.[4]
