THE GAMBLER RETURNS:

THE LUCK OF THE DRAW

November 3, 1991

02. Kenny Rogers Productions

Maverick was ground-breaking for the late 1950s. By defying Western story formulas, its unconventional approach to series television quickly caught the attention and appreciation of its audience. As one of the first affable anti-heros, Maverick wore a black hat, avoided honest work, ran from danger, and would rather turn a profit in a shiftless profession than get involved in a worthy cause. Beyond the leading characters, the stories themselves took standard western clichés and spun them around in unexpected and entertaining ways. Step backstage to discover the stories behind the stories and the people that brought Maverick to life.
