Stuart messenger

Hired thug of the Stuart Machine in Salt Lake City,[1] Utah Territory,[2] in 1876.[2] (January 26, 1826March 1, 1883)[2]

On July 4, 1876, the messenger appeared at Bart Maverick's Capital City Hotel room to tell him he had a visitor in the lobby. When Bart told the messenger he "didn't need any," the messenger asked what he should tell "her." Then believing it was a woman was asking for him, Bart left his room to go down to the lobby. When there was no woman waiting for him, he told the hotel clerk the bellboy had just told him of the visitor but the clerk had sent the bellboy to see the Independence Day parade forty-five minutes earlier. Realizing he had been duped, Bart rushed back upstairs to discover a suitcase had been stolen out of his room.[1]
