Thorn Canyon

Minor canyon[1] along Wounded Knee Creek in northern Nebraska, five miles west of Packsaddle Station.[2]

In July of 1875[1] at the Packsaddle Station, Wes Fallon killed Sam Harris' mining partner Matson by throwing a knife into his back. While passenger agent Simmons was still outside readying fresh horses for the west-bound Tomah stage, Mart Fallon thought it best to sneak Matson's body outside, onto a horse, and dump it into Thorn Canyon. However, Bret Maverick rode into the station at that moment, so the Fallons quickly propped the corpse up in a chair with a hat over its eyes so it would appear to simply be a man sleeping.[1]
