thug

Henchman to Hazelton[1] in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory,[2] in 1876.[1] (November 26, 1836May 12, 1919)[2]

A member of the Stuart Machine, hired by Hazelton to perform his dirty work.[1]

On the night of July 4, 1876, the thug and another Hazelton thug jumped out of a carriage in front of the[1] Salt Lake City[2] stagecoach depot and assaulted Bart Maverick. They took him to a basement somewhere in town to be beaten into revealing the location of incriminating papers to Hazelton. After Tiny beat him, the thug poured water over Bart's head to keep him conscious. On July 6, after Bart had found the papers and was walking to the First National Bank, the thug and Tiny followed him into the street where they were joined by Hazelton and the other thug. They chased Bart into an empty warehouse where Bart was forced to shoot and kill them in self-defense.[1]
