Maverick Actor
Born as Nancy Ann Whitney, Blake became not only an actress, but a writer. She got her start onstage with the Pasadena Playhouse before getting into television. Married to Tom Baxter from 1940 – 1950, she was the mother of Meredith Baxter, 1980s star of Family Ties. Blake is probably best known for her role as Dorothy Baxter, AKA Mrs. B, in Hazel in the early 1960s. She and her later husband, Allan Manings, co-created the popular 1970s sit-com One Day at a Time, largely based on her experiences as a single mother raising her three children in the 1950s[1]
