book salesman
Traveling salesman for The Book of Knowledge in New Mexico Territory in 1876.[2] (November 24, 1846 – June 15, 1916)[2]
In April of 1876,[2] Bart Maverick and Daisy Haskell traveled by stagecoach from Santa Fe to Loma Parda, New Mexico Territory, with the book salesman, a cattleman and a barbed wire salesman. As the stage picked up speed to traverse Comanche country south of Las Vegas, the book salesman informed the other passengers that the latest edition of The Book of Knowledge reported that the Indians in that area were peaceful. Bart quipped that perhaps the Indians hadn't read the latest edition.[1]
