Cabildo Prison
Prison cell block located at the rear of the Cabildo in New Orleans from 1859 – 1904.[1]
Known as the Calaboose, from the French term calabouse derived from the Spanish calabozo, meaning "dungeon."[1]
In April of 1879,[3] Bret Maverick was held prisoner with Yvette Devereaux by Jody Collins. When Collins outlined his plan of ransoming Henri Devereaux for the return of Yvette, Bret suggested that his inexperience would get him hanged in Cabildo Prison.[4]
