Cedric
Pet skunk of Noah Perkins in the Black Hills, Dakota Territory[1] in 1877 (November 19, 1875 – May 25, 1890)[2]
In Boulder Canyon[2] of the Black Hills[1] in May of 1877,[2] Bret Maverick and Dandy Jim Buckley recruited Perkins to fight Battling Kreuger in Deadwood. Concerned about Cedric while he would be gone, Perkins decided it best to take him along. Not used to traveling, Cedric became nervous and lost his appetite. Perkins became worried that Cedric wasn't eating his regular food, but Madame Pompey, having had her own pet skunk when she was younger, knew to break a small hole in an egg so Cedric could lap out the nutrients.[1] Cedric recovered and, with Perkins and Pompey's care, lived a long and healthy life in their home in Boulder Canyon.[2]
