Charlie
Saloon customer at the Golden Chance Saloon in Bent Forks,[1] Nebraska in 1871. (c1806 – 1876)[2]
A favorite target of Moose Horton, a local bully.[1]
One day, Charlie had his boots off in the Golden Chance Saloon, reading a newspaper. Moose Horton quietly filled his boots with water and then set Charlie's newspaper on fire. When the fire burned Charlie's hand, he jumped. Seeing and hearing Moose laughing at him, he went to put his boots on and poured water all over the floor. Angered and embarrased, he stormed out of the saloon. Moose justified his prank by saying that Charlie liked it, because it made him one of the boys.[1]
