Chicuelo
Mexican entertainer at La Cantina Americana in Tampico, Mexico, in 1877.[1] (September 26, 1834 – March 5, 1923)[2]
An outgoing and friendly man, adept at the Spanish guitar and singing Spanish and Mexican folk songs, and a good friend of Paul Brooks.
In June of 1877, Bret Maverick arrived in Tampico and entered La Cantina Americana as Chicuelo was accompanying singer Amy Lawrence on the guitar. Looking for a way to find work in the casino, Bret asked Chicuelo about Brooks, who told him of Brooks' job as a dealer and his affinity for the ladies.[1]
