Davenport, Fanny
American stage actress (April 10, 1850 – September 26, 1898)[1]
Known for her youth and beauty, Davenport first appeared on stage at age 6 as the daughter of Metamora in the play of the same name. Her formal debut was at age 11 in her first speaking role February of 1862 at New York City's Niblo's Garden in her father's production of "Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady." She later played many roles originated in Europe by Sarah Bernhardt. She died of an enlarged heart in Duxbury, Massachusetts at the age of 48.[1]
The Long Hunt: In December of 1877, Bret Maverick knocked on Rex Clark's hotel door to confront him about his association with Lefty Dolan. Drunk at the time, Clark did not want to be bothered and called out, "Unless you're Fanny davenport with $10,000 in each hand, you can fly away."[2]
