Don Durant spent part of his youth on a cattle ranch in Elko, Nevada, which prepared him for future roles in westerns. He broke into entertainment while still in high school with his own radio show in Riverside, California.[1]

In the early 1950s, Durant was singing at the Sands and the Sahara in las Vegas and began appearing on variety shows on CBS. These led to acting roles in film and television.[1]

In 1959, he landed the starring role in Johhny Ringo, the part for which he is best known. Due to sponsorship problems, the series was canceled after one season. He became disillusioned with the roles he was offered afterwards and retired from show business in 1964 to sell real estate.[1]
