In September of 1876, Sheriff Chick Tucker and his posse from Hallelujah, New Mexico Territory, trailed Cliff Sharp to Elbow Bend after he had robbed the Hallelujah Wells Fargo office of $40,000 and killed its clerk. They passed Empire Furniture and Drapery Company as they rode to the livery to ask if any strangers had come into town that night.
