The Maverick Saga is a fictional reflection of real American history, spanning decades. And though Maverick is mostly fiction, much is derived from — or set against —historic fact. Even when depicting fictional people, locales and events, there are often clues for the careful observer to place them in real history and geography.

As a result, many of the entries in the Encyclopedia Mavericana go beyond simply defining what's found in the stories. Whenever possible, additional observations are offered to bring further life and realism to the Saga, and are noted accordingly.
