Ralph Faulkner began acting in Hollywood in the silent era beginning in 1917. Performing his own stunts in 1922, he fell off a river log and severely injured his knee. During his recovery, his therapy included a rowing apparatus and fencing exercises. he soon became enamored of fencing and began entering and winning competitions. He brought his expertise to the silver screen, choreographing swordplay in a number of films, most notably 1935's "The Three Musketeers," in which he also played Cardinal Richeilieu's captain of the guard.[1]
