Fletcher
Card sharp in Bent Forks,[1] Nebraska in 1871. (April 13, 1824 – February 2, 1893)[2]
In 1871,[2] Fletcher and his partner, Fred Callahan, followed the cattle drives into Bent Forks. Bret Maverick, working as a spotter at the Golden Chance Saloon, caught them working the Spread as Callahan slipped a third jack into Fletcher’s called hand. The two were immediately arrested by Sheriff Wes Corwin, but were each released on $100 bail. The two men considered Bret responsibile for their losing a lot of money in the poker game, as well as costing them bail. They forced Bret outside of town at gunpoint to settle their score with him, but were stopped by Corwin’s intervention and were told to leave Bent Forks for good.[1]
