free gold
Gold found combined with no other mineral or substance.[1]
Stage West: In July of 1875,[2] Sam Harris struck a pocket of free gold in the Black Hills. He took a nugget into the assay office in Twin Bluffs,[3] Nebraska[2] that ran ninety percent pure. Based on that assessment, the presumed value of the strike was touted as a million dollars. Unfortunately, as the Harris Mine was merely a pocket of free gold, it was worth no more than the few nuggets Harris unearthed.[3]
