Maverick Actor
Known for his deep bariton voice, Roy Glenn began his acting career in films in 1936. As an African American actor in the early days of film, Roy Glenn often played stereotypical roles as bootblacks, porters and other laborers. In the mid-1950s, he made a break into television with several appearances on The Amos 'n Andy Show. As morés changed, so did the quality of his roles. It has been widely rumored that Glenn was the original voice of Tony the Tiger, but Kellogg's has always disputed the claim, crediting Thurl Ravenscroft as the one-and-only Tony. Glenn continued in both film and television until his death in 1971.[1]
