Great Western engineer
Engineer for the Great Western Railroad in 1872.[1] (October 24, 1814 – July 12, 1879)[2]
In September of 1872, the engineer drove a Brasada Spur train commandeered by Horace Hogan and a mob of Great Western men from Junction City southward along the Brasada Spur route to destroy its stations along the way. When the mob hit the Brasada Pass station, word was telegraphed to Bart Maverick and Roy Stafford in King City. They organized their own team of railroad men and local ranchers to take another train northward from Chaseville to intercept them. About halfway up the route, the engineer jumped to safety just before the two trains destroyed each other in a head-on collision.[1]
