Gulf of Mexico
North American gulf bounded by the United States from the southern tip of Florida to the southernmost tip of Texas and by Mexico to the northeastern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula.[1]
Escape to Tampico: In June of 1877, Bret Maverick sailed across the Gulf of Mexico from New Orleans, Louisiana to Tampico, Mexico to honor his commitment to Roul Gireaux to persuade Steve Corbett to return to the United States. In July, Paul Brooks sailed along the Gulf Coast from Tampico to Corpus Christi and back in an attempt to reconnect with Rachel Stoker. Amy Lawrence also sailed from Tampico to Corpus Christi, hoping Corbett would follow her back to the States. Corbett followed her, but was careful to land on the Mexican side of the American border to travel overland through Texas to avoid United States authorities from finding him entering the country by sea. Bret likewise sailed to Corpus Christi, at first to protect Corbett from walking into a trap, but ultimately had to kill him in self-defense after learning Corbett was truly guilty of having killed Victor Gireaux in New Orleans a year earlier.[2]
