On May 29, 1872, Bret Maverick won $3,000 in a poker game at Pearlo's Palace in Gunsight. After the game, Bret left the saloon and strolled past the office of the Gunsight Gazette next door. A moment later, he was held up by the Kid in an alley two doors down and robbed of his poker winnings. It is unknown if the assault was reported in the pages of the Gazette.[1]
