hotel clerk
Hotel clerk at the Capital City Hotel[1] in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory,[2] in 1876.[1] (December 21, 1818 – July 15, 1889)[2]
On July 4, 1876, the hotel clerk registered Bart Maverick, among others, into the Capital City Hotel. Shortly after Bart checked into his room, a man posing as a bellboy informed him that he had a lady visitor. In the lobby, Bart asked the clerk where she was, but the clerk hadn't seen anyone looking for him, and told Bart he had let the real bellboy off forty-five minutes earlier to see the Independence Day parade. Bart suspected Charles W. Farfan of the deception and ran up to his room, but discovered him murdered there. Bart was struck from behind and knocked out. When he came to, the clerk was standing next to his bed with the marshal and doctor. Bart then suspicioned Quincy Bigelow and had the clerk take him to Bigelow's room, where they found he had skipped out without paying his bill. The next day, Hazelton came into the hotel to leave a message for Bart with the clerk.[1]
