hotel clerk
Hotel clerk in Echo Springs,[1] Utah Territory[2] in 1870.[1] (September 22, 1815 – 1885)[2]
Reluctant to allow Bret Maverick to register at the hotel due to his scruffy trail-worn appearance, and suggested one of the miners’ boarding houses. When Bret produced a $1,000 bill from an envelope, and then asked the clerk to lock the envelope in the hotel safe, the clerk was happy to give him a room in the front with a view of the street, and carried Bret's saddlebag up to his room for him. Later, when Bret appeared in the lobby cleaned up and dressed in broadcloth, the clerk was openly impressed with the transformation.[1]
