Louisiana and Missouri Packet Company
Riverboat company in New Orleans in 1876.[1]
Owned by Bledsoe and Hayes, the company operated the riverboat Stonewall Jackson, in competition with the Delta Star.[1]
In 1876, Bledsoe and Hayes agreed to stake Bret Maverick $5,000 and grant him passage on the Stonewall Jackson to St. Louis with the intention of luring passengers away from the Delta Star to watch a much-anticipated rematch in poker between Bret and Samantha Crawford. When Bret the stake to Samantha, Bret was unable to repay them. Bledsoe and Hayes were willing to forego his debt since the poker game drew more in fares than they had staked him. But Bret promised to repay them as soon as he was able. With the help of Big Mike McComb and Ma Braus a few weeks later in Wagon Wheel, Wyoming Territory, Bret put crooked casino owner Joe Riggs out of business. To repay Bret for what he did for the town of Wagon Wheel, Ma offered to repay Bret's debt to Bledsoe and Hayes.[1]
