The Wrecker: In February of 1871,[2] the castway crew[3] of the Currency Lass[3] was rescued from Midway Island by a British man-of-war and brought safely ashore to San Francisco.[3] In December of that year,[2] a British man-of-war flying St. George's Cross rescued Bart Maverick and Paul Carthew from an open jolly boat four days out from Midway and returned them safely to San Francisco.[3]
