Miguel
Ranch hand on the Miller Ranch in Little Bend, Texas[1] in 1867. (January 19, 1925 – October 25, 1908)[2]
Hired in March of 1863 by Burchard Miller to work the newly established Miller Ranch, Miguel soon proved to be a simple, but reliable ranch hand.[2]
Under orders from Laura Miller[1] on the night of August 10, 1867,[2] Miguel helped Jim Hazlit bushwhack Bret and Bart Maverick on the trail out to Maverick Ranch. Although the assailants were masked, Bret caught sight of Miguel's fancy boots during the struggle just before being knocked out. Two months later and a few days away from Fort Adobe on the Miller cattle drive, Bret recognized the boots as Miguel was polishing them and realized it was Miguel and another Miller Ranch hand that had robbed Brother Bart and him.[1]
