Missouri Pacific Railway

Railroad in Missouri.

Construction began in St. Louis on July 4, 1851 as the Pacific Railroad. Construction was interrupted by the Civil War, but in 1865, it was the first railroad to reach Kansas City. The railroad company was reorganized in 1872 as the Missouri Pacific Railway and advertised itself as "The First Railroad West of the Mississippi."[1]

According to Hoyle: In 1876, Bret Maverick and Samantha Crawford traveled[3] on the Missouri Pacific Railway from St. Louis to Kansas City, where they changed to the Union Pacific[4] for Cheyenne, en route to Wagon Wheel, Wyoming Territory.[3]

Missouri Pacific Engine Number 152, 1877.[2]
