Mitchell

Gunfighter in New Mexico Territory in 1876.[1] (January 21, 1843 – April 29, 1876)[2]

In August of 1875,[2] Mitchell played poker with Bart Maverick in Dodge City.[1]

In April of 1876,[2] Bart and Daisy Haskell traveled[1] up the Santa Fe Trail[2] by stage with a Mitchell and others. Mitchell believed he recognized Bart from a poker game somewhere, but since Bart was posing as Daisy's husband, John Haskell, he had to deny having met him before. Along the trail, the stage was attacked by a band of Comanche. As Mitchell helped fight them off with his revolver, he remembered clearly that he had, in fact, met Bart before in a poker game in Dodge City. Bart and Daisy were concerned that Mitchell's memory would expose their ruse, but Mitchell was shot and killed by a Comanche before he could confront the issue further.[1]
