Montana Territory
Territory of the United States, organized out of the Territory of Idaho on May 26, 1864.[1]
Montana was admitted in the Union as the 41st state on November 8, 1889.[2]
Named for the Spanish word montaña, meaning "mountain."[2]
Ghost Rider: In 1872, Shane and Felton broke out of the Montana Territorial Prison in Deer Lodge.[3]
