Burt Mustin's first stint in show business was as the host of a Pittsburgh radio variety show. In the 1930s and '40s, he was a member of the Pittsburgh Savoyards, the oldest Gilbert & Sullivan troupe in the United States. He was 67 when he appeared in his first film, 1951's "Detective Story." He began appearing in television that same year and became one of the large and small screen's most familiar "old man" character actors into the mid-1970s.[1]
