Best known for his role of cowboy Jim Parker in the film "Oklahoma!", Gene Nelson began his career as a dancer. After serving in the Army in World War II, he worked in film musicals with Doris Day, Debbie Reynolds and Virginia Mayo. He turned to directing for television and films in the late 1950s and through the 1960s.
