Rue Rubidoux

Cheap hotel[2] in the French Quarter of New Orleans[1] in 1879.[2]

Named for the French Canadian Robidoux lineage of North American fur traders Trans-Mississippi pioneers.[2]

In April of 1879[1] in New Orleans, Bret Maverick heard of the upcoming maiden run of Henri Devereaux's luxurious steam packet, the River Princess, and knew it would be a golden opportunity for big winnings at her poker tables, playing the cream of Creole society. Momentarily destitute, he took room 17 at Rue Rubidoux and telegraphed Brother Bart[2] in St. Louis[1] to join him.[2]
