Rush

Resident of Little Bend, Texas[1] in 1867. (April 18, 1830 – February 1, 1878)[2]

A long-time resident of Little Bend, Hank had known the Maverick family since he was a boy.[2]

On August 11,1867,[2] he was amongst a crowd of local Johnny Rebs in the streets of Little Bend being recruited as hands for the Miller cattle drive by Bret and Bart Maverick. When a few of competing rancher Jessie Hayden's men interrupted to accuse the Mavericks of being Galvanized Yankees, Hank was one of the men to stand up for the Mavericks. having been Galvanized Yankee himself.[1]

The Mavericks hired Rush for the cattle drive and Bart assigned him the duty of riding right flank for the herd. At the end of the drive from Little Bend to Fort Adobe, Arizona Territory, he was paid $60 and allowed to keep the horse, saddle, blanket, gun and pair of boots with which he had been supplied.[1]
