Deputy in Bent Forks,[1] Nebraska in 1871. (October 5, 1849 – March 31, 1930)[2]
A friendly and respectful young man, Chris was well-liked. In 1867, Chris came to Bent Forks and signed on as a ranch hand at the Bar T Ranch. When he turned 21, sheriff Wes Corwin deputized him, and Chris moved into town to be closer to his new job.[1]
In 1871,[2] Bret Maverick came to Bent Forks and was jailed for running a confidence game on local bully, Moose Horton. Corwin had little patience for Bret, but Chris understood Bret's intentions and treated him, as he did everyone with friendliness and courtesy.[1]
