Sheppley, Adam

Millionaire and friend to Belle Morgan in King City,[1] Kansas,[2] in 1872.[1] (July 31, 1815 – December 19, 1873)[2]

In September of 1872, Belle Morgan had Sheppley "lose" 5,000 shares of her capital stock in Brasada Spur to Bart Maverick in a poker game in retribution of his using her affections to gain him a seat at the very same poker table. Knowing what was at stake, Rufus Elgree vouched for Sheppley's integrity and the assumed value of the stock, However, the stock was depressed and carried a liability of $40,000 of Brasada Spur's debt to the stockholder.[1]
