shorthorn
On innocent or a new-comer, a greenhorn. Co called for the person's resemblance to a young, or short-horned, steer which was thought to be disadvantaged compared to longer horned or more experienced cattle, unable to fend for itself.[1]
Point Blank: Bret Maverick told Molly Gleason that he liked her, even though she thought he was a shorthorn.[2]
