Hope Summers taught Speech and Diction at Northerwestern School of Speech in Evanston, Illinois, shortly after graduating from there. In the 1930s, she got into community and stock theatre, and performed on many radio dramas into the 1940s. In 1950, she moved into television and began appearing in homey character roles. She is best remembered for her recurring role as Clara on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry R.F.D. Her voice was also well-known as that of the talking maple syrup bottle in the Mrs. Butterworth commercials.[1]
