Susie
Saloon entertainer at the Golden Nugget Saloon in Deadwood, Dakota Territory,[1] in 1877. (November 17, 1855 – May 25, 1929)[2]
A singer and dancer in St. Louis, Susie met and was hired by Madame Pompey to join her group of female entertainers[1] in April of 1877.[2] She traveled with Pompey and the rest of her newly recruited showgirls from St. Louis up the Missouri River aboard the Dakota Queen[1] to Fort Pierre, and then along the Fort Pierre to Deadwood Trail[2] into Deadwood itself. There, she began working with Pompey's girls at Tony Cadiz's Golden Nugget Saloon.[1] In May,[2] Pompey trusted Susie to hold the $10,000 in gold dust she and girls had collected to bet on Pompey's Mystery Man in a boxing match against Battling Kreuger.[1]
