Founded in 1792 with the Constitutional authority to establish post offices and post roads across the United States and its territories.[1]
The Day They Hanged Bret Maverick: In the mid-1870s, the U. S. Mail was transported[2] along the Santa Fe Trail[3] in New Mexico Territory by the Denver-Cheyenne and Laramie Line,[3] among others.[1]
On April 10, 1877, the first U. S. Post Office of Deadwood, Dakota Territory, opened with Seth Bullock as its first postmaster.[4]
Stampede: In May of 1877,[3] Bret Maverick and Dandy Jim Buckley visited Deadwood and would pass the post office to approach the Golden Nugget Saloon.[5]
